Naval warfare, the history of submarines, Europe’s maritime heritage, and the future of naval museums – these are the topics that will bring together distinguished researchers and museum professionals from across Europe to Gdynia. On August 21–22, 2025, the Naval Museum in Gdynia will host the international academic conference “War and the Sea – from the Middle Ages to the Present Day.”

The conference will be one of the most important academic events devoted to the history of human military presence on the seas and oceans. Experts from Poland, Great Britain, Sweden, Germany, Norway, Estonia, Spain, Italy, and Finland will participate. Topics covered include:

Modern approaches to the conservation and exhibition of museum ships,
Unknown episodes from the history of 20th-century naval warfare,
Medieval sources and war strategies,
Poland’s participation in international maritime memory projects.

Professor Andrew Lambert is our special guest of the event, a world-class naval history expert from King’s College London. The conference will be conducted in Polish and English (Simultaneous interpretation).
